Trailer Technician Requirements & Qualifications
- Ability to diagnose, service, and repair commercial equipment
- Working knowledge of DOT / FMCSA inspection standards and safety requirements
- Experience performing FHWA/BIT inspections and identifying safety-related defects
- Must provide own tools per company requirements
- Valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain DOT certification
- Ability to work independently while following repair and safety standards
- Strong attention to detail, safety, and quality workmanship
- Experience with brake systems (inspections and adjustments)
- Experience with air systems (air lines, valves, chambers), electrical systems (lighting, wiring, troubleshooting), and suspension systems
- Ability to perform landing gear repairs, tire and wheel-end maintenance, door repairs, preventive maintenance inspections, and minor welding and torch work
Trailer Technician Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Perform fleet-specific repairs, including completing FHWA inspections and brake system repairs
- Inspect, maintain, and repair air lines, electrical/lighting systems, suspension components, doors, and flooring
- Conduct routine welding and related mechanical work as needed
- Document completed repairs and ensure all work adheres to safety regulations and quality standards
- Maintain tools, workspace cleanliness, and responsible use of equipment
- Communicate effectively with team members and vendors to support seamless yard operations
